The Saskatchewan Selects are preparing for a big weekend as they get set to host the Manitoba Selects for the second annual Selects Bowl at Yara Centre on Sunday.

The two sister programs will come together for three interprovincial games this Sunday as they prepare to head to the 2018 International Pigskin Classic in San Antonio, TX in February.

"This is where things get really, really exciting," said Zeljko Stefanovic, program director with the Saskatchewan Selects. "The kids now are going to get an opportunity to showcase what they've learned over the last two months. The kids are going to be able to see where they're at and where they need to make some improvements."

The Sask Selects picked their four teams in mid-November and have been coming together on weekends in Moose Jaw since then to prepare to head to the United States next month.

"The kids have been doing a lot of individual skill development, which is what we focus on during the first part of the season and this weekend when we get back at it, we're going to focus more on the team stuff so we can get ready for Manitoba," said Stefanovic

"Our 10U, which is our nine, 10 and 11-year-olds, to see the passion in those kids eyes and the excitement is unbelievable. To watch those really young kids play football as it's really meant to be, our offensive lineman are learning how to pick up blocks, these are things that they're teaching at university level, it's amazing to watch those offensive lineman look like professional football players."

The three games will feature the Saskatchewan and Manitoba Selects going head-to-head in the 10-and-Under, 12U and 14U divisions.

Stefanovic said you will be treated to some great football during the three games.

"I invite anyone who wants to watch the best players in Saskatchewan at their age level and to watch these kids showcase their skills is absolutely phenomenal," he said.

"We're going to have combined practices on Saturday and then on Sunday morning, the excitement starts with full scrimmages and full games, except for the kicking part."

The Selects Bowl kicks off with the 10U game at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday and then the 12U game hits the field at 10:30 a.m. and that’s followed by the 14U game at 12:30 p.m.
