Moose Jaw's Skylar Ackerman and Team Saskatchewan are into the playoff round at the 2018 Canadian Under-18 Women's Curling Championship in St. Andrews, N.B.

Team Saskatchewan split their two games to end the round robin on Thursday, cruising to a big 15-0 win over Yukon and then dropping a 4-3 game in an extra end to host New Brunswick.

"We're playing really good, we have a really good communication right now, we're able to keep each other confident and happy on the ice, so that's a big positive and we're just having lots of fun out there," said third Madison Johnson over the phone from New Brunswick.

After starting the event 2-0, Saskatchewan played some tough games over the final two days with their only two losses coming to Ontario and New Brunswick, who finished tied for first place at 5-1.

Their 4-2 record put them in third place in Pool A heading into the playoff round. Johnson said that the team is feeling good about where they're at heading into the weekend.

"As long as we keep our communication and our support for one-and-other, we can have a pretty good chance going into playoffs," said Johnson.

In the morning game on Thursday, Saskatchewan scored in every end on their way to the lopsided win over Yukon. They opened with singles in the first and second ends, but then blew things open with four in the third before adding three in each of the next three ends.

"It went really good, we kept our rocks in the right positions, we were on point and had a lot of fun doing it," said Johnson.

The game against New Brunswick was close and back-and-forth throughout. The hosts opened with a deuce in the first and after blanking the second and third, Saskatchewan got on the board with a single in the fourth.

Team Sask stole one in the sixth to tie the game and then the two teams traded single points over the next four ends with New Brunswick getting the hammer in the extra end to take the win.

"They made a lot of great shots and our team made a lot of amazing shots too and it just happened that they got the luck of the draw, so they got to take home the win," said Johnson.

The double knockout championship round opens on Friday with Saskatchewan hitting the ice against Northern Ontario at 9:30 a.m. The semifinals and final go on Saturday.
