For the first time since moving to Saskatchewan, the Rush won't be playing in the NLL Cup final.

The Rush were eliminated from the playoffs on Friday night with a heartbreaking 11-10 overtime loss to the Colorado Mammoth at SaskTel Centre.

"It's a terrible way to lose and have your season to end on a pick-off and a breakaway like that, good play by them, but it's a terrible way to lose," said Rush forward Mark Matthews, who had a goal and four points in the loss.

Ben McIntosh scored the game-tying goal in the final minute of regulation for the Rush after Colorado had mounted a huge fourth-quarter comeback, scoring six times to take the lead.

Joey Cupido won the game with a breakaway goal 4:04 into the extra frame to send the Mammoth to the next round.

"I'm not going to pin it on one play, the guy made a great play," said Rush head coach Derek Keenan. "We weren't very good in the fourth quarter and that was what cost us the game, either end of the floor. We had some good chances and [Dillon] Ward played really well, and that's the danger of that game, they played really well, you'd have a hard time convincing me that they're a better team than us but today they were."

The game opened with a back-and-forth first quarter that started with Jeff Shattler scoring 6:05 into the game. Just 15 seconds later Jacob Ruest tied the game for the Mammoth and 26 seconds after that Chris Wardle gave Colorado a 2-1 lead.

Ryan Lee made it a two-goal advantage for the Mammoth but Curtis Knight cut it back down to one to end the first.

Matthews and Robert Church scored in the second quarter to make it a 4-4 game at halftime.

In the third quarter, McIntosh scored his first of the game 2:22 into the second half and then Knight followed that up with 3:26 left in the frame. Church scored his second of the game in the final minute of the third to make it 7-4 for the Rush.

With all the momentum on Saskatchewan's side, the power went out at SaskTel Centre and caused a short delay, but that was enough to spark the Mammoth for their six-goal period.

"They just got some bounces, that power outage didn't help, we went on a bit of a run at the end of the third and it slowed everything down and then they got a couple of quick ones and we didn't respond," said Matthews.

The Rush have played in four straight NLL Cup finals dating back to their final season in Edmonton in 2015.

This season was the first in which the division winners were forced to play a quarterfinal match and top-ranked Saskatchewan fell victim to the fourth-seeded Mammoth.

"I'm not shocked to lose to them, Ward is capable of stealing a game, I'm not saying that's what he did tonight because they played well enough to win that game but he was great, so was [Evan Kirk] for us," said Rush captain Chris Corbeil. "I was would say the sense is disappointment more than anything."

Saskatchewan outshot Colorado 54-41 overall with Ward making 44 saves in the win. Kirk turned away 30 shots in the loss. The Rush also won the loose ball battle, 82-55.

The Mammoth will now face the winner between Calgary and San Diego in their Western Division quarter-final on Monday.
