The Assiniboia Rockets and B.C.A. Cougars met in a high scoring game on Thursday night in the Moose Jaw High School Senior Basketball League.

The Rockets held off the Cougars for a 105-102 home win in senior boys' action to end the week.

Derek Beaubien scored a team-high 23 points to help Assiniboia to the win, while Ty Montgomery picked up 22 and Von Closa finished with 19 points.

Ryan Young and Musa Peter accounted for 78 points for the Cougars in the loss. Young had a game-high 40, while Peter chipped in with 38.

The two sides were tied 28-28 after the first quarter and the Rockets were able to pull ahead slightly in the second quarter for a 55-53 lead at halftime. Both teams continued to go back-and-forth in the second half with Josh Nesvold and Jonathan Harden draining free throws for the final points to secure the win late.

The Rockets are 1-1 after the win, while the Cougars fall to 0-3.

In the girls game on Thursday in Assiniboia, the B.C.A. Cougars secured a 60-25 win over the Rockets. Lilly and Mya Matthies led the Cougars with 14 points each in the win. The Cougars improve to 2-1, while the Rockets are 0-2 after the loss.

The senior basketball league is back on the court for games on Tuesday as the Vanier Vikings and Spirits host the Central Cyclones at 6:20 p.m. and 8 p.m.

Vanier will also head to Assiniboia next Thursday for the final games before the Christmas break.
