The Saskatchewan Roughriders announced on Wednesday that they have released linebacker Sam Eguavoen to allow him to pursue an NFL opportunity.

Eguavoen, who has spent the past three seasons with the Riders, was scheduled to become a free agent on Feb. 12.

The 25-year-old Texas Tech product registered 159 defensive tackles, 14 special-teams tackles, four quarterback sacks and one interception in 38 regular-season games with Saskatchewan.

He also added 14 defensive tackles and two special-teams tackles during three playoff games. 

The Riders also released international receiver Kenny Shaw on Wednesday.
