Nobody has ever said that Duron Carter isn't confident.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders' brash receiver will be moving to defensive back this week when they take on the Ottawa Redblacks to kick-off Week 2 action in the Canadian Football League.

Carter was asked on Wednesday what kind of challenge that he expected from the Redblacks receivers during his second career start on defence.

"I don't think they bring any challenge to tell you the truth," he said. "They're not better than the receivers that we go against in practice, so there you go."

Carter then doubled down in saying that he didn't find moving to defence to be that much of a challenge either.

"If it was a challenge, I don't think Coach Jones would put me there, he has the confidence in me to perform at a high level just like any other player, so there's no challenge at all," stated Carter.

In Carter's lone start on defence last season, he intercepted Bo-Levi Mitchell and returned it for a touchdown.

The Riders will be hoping for the same kind of results this time around as they look to improve to 2-0 on the year after a convincing 27-19 win over the defending Grey Cup champion, Toronto Argonauts, in Week 1.

Jones said Carter has proven that he can play the position and he's comfortable with him there.

"He was just kind of a natural at doing that job," said Jones. "He's done a real good job at camp this year of playing both ways and took a lot of reps doing it because he's having to get reps on offence and defence, and he's a much better defensive back now than what he was at the end of last year."

A lot of eyes will be on Carter during the Thursday night showdown between the Riders and Redblacks.

Collaros Finding His Footing in Riders' Offence

The Riders' offence got better as the game went on last week during quarterback Zach Collaros' first start against the Argonauts.

Coming into Week 2 action, Collaros said the Riders need to keep moving forward and growing offensively.

"We can't rest on our laurels and from an offensive standpoint, it's just continuing to build that chemistry, continuity, whatever you want to call it, and from a pass game standpoint, you have to really hone down on the fine details, so building on that and stressing the importance of those details," said Collaros.

Jones is confident that Collaros will continue to get better for the Riders as the season moves on.

"As we move along, he gets more weeks, more reps, he should (feel more comfortable)," said Jones.

Evans Returns to Ottawa

Last week was Zach Evans first game back in Green and White and now this week he returns to the stadium that he called home for the past four seasons.

Evans said there isn't anything added to this game because of who its against.

"When I played Saskatchewan while I was Redblack I'd be more amped, but going back to Ottawa, I love the city, I love the team, but it's just business now," said Evans.

There is one thing that Evans is looking forward to about playing his former teammates, "I haven't been able to touch Trevor Harris in a long time, so I'm pretty excited," he said.

The Riders' defensive line was a force to be reckoned with during their Week 1 win and Evans said it’s going to be a lot of fun lining up with Charleston Hughes and Willie Jefferson on the outside this season.

"It's fun, they have lots of fun out there and they're amazing athletes, so being around them and watching how they prepare, it's awesome," said Evans.

"Our philosophy is to let them eat and the garbage will come our way, so I'm waiting for those garbage sacks."

Redblacks Opening Season

Ottawa sat out Week 1 of the CFL season, meaning Thursday's meeting with the Riders is their first game of the 2018 season.

The Redblacks have lost a bit of their firepower from their Grey Cup win two years ago, but still feature an offence led by quarterback Trevor Harris and receiver Greg Ellingson.

The defence has two players very familiar to the Riders in defensive ends A.C. Leonard and Jonathan Newsome.

Kick-off between the Riders and Redblacks is set for 5:30 p.m. Sask time.
