A two-day break wasn't enough to snap the Moose Jaw Miller Express out of their current funk.

The Millers dropped their fourth straight game, falling 9-2 to the Edmonton Prospects at Ross Wells Park to open up the two-game set between the two teams.

After starting the season with six straight wins, the Millers have posted a 3-8 record since to sit at 9-8 on the year, and just don’t seem to have the same mojo that they had during that early season run.

"We just have to bring a little bit more energy to the games, the schedule has been getting to us a bit, we're tired a little bit, but we’ve just got to bring some energy, some fire, to our games, it's been a little dead," said third baseman Adam Cook.

Cook drove in the Millers' only two runs with a home run in the seventh inning, but it was a quiet night for the bats other than that.

Millers first baseman Ty Roseberry had a double in the first inning, but was stranded on third base. Moose Jaw had just four more base runners after that until Cook's home run in the seventh.

Moose Jaw left the bases loaded in the ninth inning.

"We hit a bunch of balls right at people, you can't do much about that, you're just trying to hit the ball hard, but we'll find it, they'll start to drop, it's just baseball," said Cook.

The Millers met first as a team and then just the hitters for a bit after the game. Cook said they just need to find a way to get back on track at the plate.

"We haven't been produce the last couple of games, so we're just trying to talk it over and see where we're at as a group," he said. "We don't want to get too high, don't get too low, just try to stay at that even point."

Starting pitcher Gunner Pickett cruised through a 1-2-3 first inning, but then ran into trouble in the second, giving up a three-run home run to AJ Nitzschke.

Two triples for the Prospects in the third inning led to them adding three more runs for a 6-0 lead after three.

An RBI-double from Anthony Cusoti with one out in the fifth chased Pickett from the game.

Jesse Marks came on for Moose Jaw and retired 11 of the first 12 batters that he faced before giving up a lead-off home run to Nitzschke to open the ninth inning. The Prospects tacked on two runs in that frame for insurance.

Edmonton starter Brandon Wiun threw six scoreless, striking out four and walking one. Marion McLean picked up the three-inning save, allowing two runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks.

These two teams will meet for a rematch on Friday night, which is something that Cook is looking forward to, "It will be nice to come back out here and show them what we're made of," said Cook.

The Millers and Prospects hit the field at 7 p.m.
