The Moose Jaw Warriors tasted defeat for the first time on home ice this season on Wednesday, dropping a 3-2 game to the Prince Albert Raiders at Mosaic Place.

Now the Warriors will be looking for redemption when they head into the Art Hauser Centre for a rematch with the Raiders.

“We’re going to come out Friday and we’re going to be ready to go,” Warriors defenceman Denton Mateychuk said. “We didn’t play a full 60 minutes Wednesday, so I think we need to do that and we’ll give ourselves a chance.”

The Warriors fell behind 3-0 in the second period against the Raiders, but were able to score twice late in the third period to make Wednesday’s game close.

Head Coach Mark O’Leary said he liked that the team continued to fight until the end.

“The end of the day, we didn’t deserve a win, we were the second best team in the rink, that’s for sure,” he said.

“We knew coming in it was going to be a desperate club looking for that first win and they played like it… to put everything into perspective, they got inside and we played on the outside.”

Heading into the rematch on Friday night, O’Leary said the Warriors’ game plan won’t change, but the execution needs to for them to come away with two points.

“It goes back to our willingness to get inside and just compete,” he said. “They did a real good job collapsing inside home plate, in front of their net, and made life real difficult, we can do that at our end a little bit better, but really to me it’s the one-on-one compete in their end.”

Mateychuk said the Warriors need to play a more complete game to have success in Prince Albert.

“It’s just all mental, we just need to stay in it for the whole 60 minutes and if we do that, were going to have in every game,” he said.

The Raiders came into Mosaic Place hungry for their first win of the season and O’Leary said the Warriors need to have that same hunger to avoid dropping back-to-back games for the first time this season.

“We had a real good practice [Thursday] and we feel good about our game right now, but we know what we have to do to get to our identity and get there quickly on Friday night,” he said.

“[Wednesday’s loss] gives us a little bit of an edge,” added Mateychuk. “We want to get the split and we want to beat them.”

The Warriors and Raiders face off at 7 p.m. on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre. Tune into all the action live on Country 100 with Voice of the Warriors James Gallo, the pre-game show gets underway at 6:40 p.m.
