Last season -- despite a ton of firepower -- the Moose Jaw Warriors had moments where they struggled on the power play. This week in practice, the Warriors couldn't find a rhythm during power-play drills. However, that wasn't the case on Friday night.

The Warriors potted four power-play goals on their way to a 5-2 win over the visiting Medicine Hat Tigers in preseason action at Mosaic Place.

"We went over the power play before the game just to get things refreshed and everything sorted out, but we really executed tonight, really beared down and really supported each other," said defenceman Daemon Hunt.

The 16-year-old led the charge for the Warriors with assists on the Warriors' last three goals as they overcame a 2-1 deficit early in the second period with four unanswered goals.

Hunt said he's feeling strong coming into this season after playing nine regular-season and two playoff games with the Warrior as a 15-year-old.

"I'm a lot more comfortable, looking back to last year compared to this year, I find it pretty ridiculous actually, all that experience under my belt," he said. "Even playing in those two playoff games, in that atmosphere, everyone's eyes on you, so that's really helping me a lot."

19-year-old forward Ryan Peckford looked ready to go for the season with two goals for the Warriors in the victory.

He said it was nice to see the power play clicking before the season gets underway, "We were just making the plays work, we stuck to what we were trying to work on in practice and we made it work, so it was good," said Peckford.

"We're going to work on trying to get more five-on-five offence, but we were drawing penalties and capitalizing on our power play, so there's good things, but also things that we could work on as well."

16-year-old forward Peyton McKenzie opened the scoring for the Warriors with a power-play goal with 14:14 gone in the first period. The Tigers would answer before the period was out when Bryan Lockner beat goalie Adam Evanoff on a rebound.

Tigers' 2018 first round pick Cole Sillinger scored his fourth of the preseason on a power play early in the second period.

Peckford answered for the Warriors just past the midway point of the second. That was followed up only 1:03 later by a pair of 17-year-olds connecting for a power play goal, as Brayden Tracey found Drae Gardiner cross-ice to put the Warriors back in front.

Tate Popple would give Moose Jaw some insurance late in the second when he finished off a great feed from Tyler Smithies.

The Warriors put the game out of reach early in the third when Hunt and Yegor Buyalski set up Peckford for his second of the night only 2:03 into the final frame.

"It was good to get the puck moving around and bury a few goals, it's always nice for the confidence," said Peckford.

Evanoff shut the door in the third period with 11 saves, including two back-to-back at close range during a flurry for the Tigers. The 18-year-old netminder made 23 saves in the win.

Moose Jaw outshot Medicine Hat, 36-25, as Danish goalie Mads Sogaard made 31 saves.

The Warriors and Tigers will meet again on Saturday in Irvine, Alberta. Puck drops at 7:30 p.m.
