The Moose Jaw Police Association and Moose Jaw area Special Olympics athletes are teaming up for a golf event Sept. 7 at Deer Ridge.

Curtis Amiot with the Police Association said their annual golf tournament is the biggest fundraiser.

“We’ll take registration for a team of four or for an individual, anybody that wants to participate,” said Amiot. “With that, you’ll get a little goodie bag when you sign up and register that day. And then you’ll get a steak supper afterwards, after the 18 holes. Usually there’s lots of good prizes, (like) door prizes and auction prizes as well at the end.”

He said last year was the first year with the partnership with the Special Olympics.

“They’re always a lot of fun,” Amiot said. “We always try to do floor hockey days with them or just some other community events... They’re always great to hang out with and they’re a lot of fun.”

The Association funds a lot of youth sports and recreation activities, as well as the Moose Jaw Health Foundation and youth scholarships through the high school.

Anyone interested in this year's golf tournament can contact Deer Ridge as an individual or a team, and those interested in sponsorship opportunities can contact Amiot or Taylor Elder with the police association.
