The Prairie Hockey Academy's two teams put together a perfect weekend on the ice, winning all five of their games in the Canadian Sport School Hockey League.

The Midget Varsity Cougars outscored the International Hockey Academy 19-1 over two games at the Barkman Arena in Caronport, while the Elite 15 Cougars swept their three games in Winnipeg.

Cougars Dominant on Home Ice

PHA's Midget Varsity Cougars are finding their stride late in the season and that was on full display this weekend in their two wins over the International Hockey Academy.

The Cougars won 11-1 on Friday night and then followed that up with an 8-0 win on Saturday.

"We just went hard, we did everything that we could to work as a team and not individuals, sometimes it got a little away from us but we worked hard to get back to it," said PHA goalie Ryley Gross after making 21 saves for the shutout on Saturday.

It was actually Gross' first shutout in six seasons, he said it felt great to get that monkey off his back.

"I'm glad I finally got a shutout this year," he said.

The two wins improved the Cougars to 10-8-1 this season in the CSSHL, which has them fifth in the Midget Varsity division.

Forward Noah Wills paced the attack for the Cougars on Saturday with three goals and seven points. Wills finished with ten points in two games on the weekend.

"We're trying to climb up the standings, so it felt really good to get some momentum and show the other teams that we're really capable of really putting in the offensive and defensive effort," said Wills.

"We were cycling the puck well, getting the puck to the net lots and finding the good seams to make the good passes… our defensive to offensive transitions have improved greatly over the season."

Jaedon Little also finished with a hat trick and six points, and Keagon Little posted a goal and six points in Saturday's win.

On Friday night, Alec Nieman led the way for PHA with three goals and five points, while Zach Ashworth picked up two goals and five points in the win.

Noah Schindel and Jaedon Little had two goals and three points each in Friday's win as well. Keagon Little picked up a goal and three points and Mikkel Hrechka added three helpers.

The Cougars return to the ice to host the Banff Hockey Academy for three games at the Barkman Arena on Feb. 22-24.

Elite 15 Cougars Perfect in Winnipeg

The Prairie Hockey Academy's Elite 15 Cougars scored five goals in all three games over the weekend and walked away with three wins.

On Friday afternoon, PHA picked up a 5-3 win over the Pacific Coast Hockey Academy.

Atley Calvert scored twice in the win, while Caelan Fitzpatrick finished with a goal and two points. Christopher Otterson and Austin Reschny also scored for PHA.

Goalie Nathan Airey made 28 saves on Saturday to backstop the Cougars to a 5-0 win over the West Van Academy.

Fitzpatrick led the offence with two goals, while Kirk Mullen and Connor McGrath had a goal and two points each, and Hunter Weber scored the other goal in the win.

On Sunday, the Cougars outshot the Okanagan Hockey Academy 43-26 as they skated to a 5-3 win to finish off the perfect weekend.

Mullen had two goals and three points, Calvert potted two more goals, Ethan Peters finished with four assists, and Max Wanner also scored in the win.

The Cougars are off this weekend and then return to the ice for four games in Edmonton from Feb. 21-24.
