The Moose Jaw Peewee Mavericks won the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League's South Division Championship in dominating fashion on Sunday.

Powered by four goals from Jesse Mielke and three from Brooklyn Nimegeers, the Mavericks rolled to an 8-1 win over the Weyburn Angels on Sunday at the Red Knight Arena.

"It feels amazing, we worked hard through the whole season and we just played our game," said Mielke, who finished with five points in the victory.

After skating to a 4-1 win in Game 1 on Saturday in Weyburn, the Mavericks returned home with a chance to clinch the title and left nothing to chance.

The game was close in the first period with Moose Jaw picking up a pair of goals from Mielke to lead 2-0. The score stayed that way through the first half of the second period, but the Mavericks exploded in the second half of the period.

Nimegeers scored her first of the game with 9:58 to go in the second. Ashley Breitkreuz followed that up with a power-play goal with 5:06 left in the period and Nimegeers scored her second of the game only 11 seconds later to make it 5-0.

Mielke -- who led the league with 47 goals and 65 points in 21 games during the regular season -- would add two goals over the final 1:55 of the second to give the Mavericks a seven-goal advantage heading into the third.

Nimegeers potted her hat trick goal midway through the third to seal the win.

Weyburn was able to break-up Schay Camphaug’s shutout with a goal from Lola Brady with 2:24 to play in the game.

"We were passing really good, back-checking, forechecking and just all together playing as a team," said Nimegeers, who scored 70 goals in 17 games this season with the Mavericks.

"It’s been such a fun year."

The Mavericks will now await the North Division champions in the provincial final.
