For the second straight year, the Peacock Toilers are coming home with a bronze medal from Hoopla. The Toilers scored a 70-53 victory over the Notre Dame Hounds in the 4A Girls bronze medal game on Saturday in Saskatoon.

"Our first game didn't go as planned but I'm really proud of everyone for turning the corner, coming back and coming home with bronze," said Peacock senior Abby Busch.

Peacock lost 70-49 to Melfort in the semi-final on Friday, but they entered Saturday's third-place game determined to go out on a high note.

"Our coaches spent a lot of time after our first game to figure out a game plan for this one and it seemed to really execute throughout the whole game," said Busch.

Peacock senior guard Piper Ingalls had a game to remember in her final high school basketball game as she poured in 38 points to lead the way for the Toilers.

"It's pretty amazing, last game of my high school career, it's awesome," said Ingalls. "My shots were just falling today."

The first quarter was really tight with Notre Dame taking a 12-11 lead, but Peacock found its stride in the second quarter and opened up a 31-21 lead heading into halftime.

The Toilers never allowed the Hounds to get much closer in the second half to seal the win.

"We're a pretty small team, so we just stayed in the key and let them shoot from the outside, we just tried to shut down their [big] posts and it seemed to work really well," said Busch.

The Toilers will graduate six players: Busch, Ingalls, Alexia Aikman, Emily MacKenzie, Alexis Lang and Megan MacDonald.

Ingalls said they had a lot of fun together throughout the season, "We had a blast, this was the best season of my life," she said. "All the girls came out and played every game, powered through, it was just an awesome season."

In the 3A Girls Division, the Briercrest Christian Academy Cougars captured the provincial championship, beating Lumsden 77-62 in the final on Saturday. Check back for more on their win coming up on Tuesday.
