The Peacock Toilers senior boys basketball team improved to 1-1 this season thanks to a strong bounce-back game on Tuesday night.

After losing to the defending champion Central Cyclones in their season opener, the Toilers got back on track with a 92-54 win over the Assiniboia Rockets.

"It felt pretty good honestly," said Peacock grade 9 guard Hayden Tollefson. "We went out there and did what we had to do at home, looked to get this [win] after the loss to Central and now we’ll be looking to keep the streak going."

Tollefson had 14 points in the win, while Devin Baumann scored a game-high 15 points. Adam Blatchford picked up 13 and Spencer Adams added 12 for Peacock.

The Toilers had every player except one find the scoresheet in the victory.

"We planned on getting the ball moving more, just work on the fundamentals, get an early lead and keep it going through the whole game," said Tollefson.

Tuesday's contest was the season opener for the Rockets, who fell behind late in the first quarter and couldn't fight their way back against an efficient Peacock team.

"It wasn't terrible, they're a great team, so we just have a couple of things that we need to work on and I feel like we can compete with them," said Assiniboia senior Jonathan Harden.

"We just need to protect the ball, we had a lot of turnovers and getting back on defence is the biggest part because they're a great offensive team and they move the ball quick."

Harden had a team-high 14 points in the loss, while Derek Beaubien picked up 12 points.

The Rockets were at their best when they were able to push the pace and score off the rush. Harden said that’s how they want to play this season.

"We've got some pretty quick guys, so if we can get into that it works," he said. "We've got some young players and they've just got to understand their roles and we've just got to understand the offence a little bit better."

In other senior boys basketball action on Tuesday, the Central Cyclones remained undefeated at 2-0 with a 126-34 win over the Briercrest Christian Academy Cougars, who are 0-2. Kyle Boughen paced the attack with 26 points in the win, while Jaxson Brownell scored 21 and Crozier Holmes chipped in with 14 for Central.

There was a pair of girls games as well on Tuesday, the Peacock Toilers improved to 2-0 this season with a 94-29 win over the Assiniboia Rockets, who drop to 0-1.
