REGINA -- It was a game that had a bit of everything on Sunday night at the 100th Memorial Cup.

The Acadie-Bathurst Titan improved to 2-0 with an 8-6 win over the Regina Pats at the Brandt Centre as the hosts dropped to 1-1 at the major junior national championship.

The win for the Titan clinches them at least a berth in the semifinal and a loss by Hamilton to Swift Current on Monday will lock up the bye into the final for Acadie-Bathurst.

"We're in a good position now and we're just going to wait and see what happens," said Titan captain Jeffrey Truchon-Viel, who had two goals and four points in the win, giving him eight points in two games at the Memorial Cup.

Top NHL Draft prospect Noah Dobson also had two goals and four points in the win for the Titan, who had a 3-1 lead after one, a 6-2 lead after two and a 7-2 lead early in the third period.

The Pats didn't go away though as they scored four straight goals in the third to make it a one-goal game before Dobson iced it with an empty net goal with one second remaining.

"Our first two periods were really good, we kind of fell asleep in the third, but a win is a win in this tournament," said Dobson. "If we said at the start of the tournament that we were going to be 2-0 after our first two games, we'd take it, so we'll learn from our third period and get better for our game on Tuesday."

After picking up a huge win to open the tournament on Friday, the Pats looked like a different team in Sunday's loss, they struggled to slow down the attack of the Titan for much of the game.

"We got a goal early and then just took our foot off the pedal, they out played us over the first two periods and we can't let that happen, it was unacceptable and its too bad we let them take advantage of that," said Pats forward Cameron Hebig.

Hebig scored just 13 seconds into the game, but the Titan answered back by with Dobson, Ethan Crossman and Liam Murphy scoring in an 82-second span at the five-minute mark to go in front 3-1 after one.

The Titan continued to attack the Pats throughout the second period with Samuel Asselin picking up his third of the tournament and Truchon-Viel extending the lead to 5-1 8:49 into the second.

Jared Legien gave the Pats a bit of life two minutes later, but Truchon-Viel scored the third shorthanded goal of the tournament less than three minutes after that to make it a four-goal lead going into the third.

The Pats pulled 17-year-old goalie Max Paddock for Ryan Kubic to start the third, but that didn't slow down the Titan as Crossman picked up his second of the night only 1:39 into the period as Acadie-Bathurst looked to finish off the easy win.

Hebig got the Pats' comeback started 4:40 into the third with his second of the game. Nick Henry followed that up at 7:39 with a power play goal to make it a three-goal game.

The Pats continued to up the pressure after the two quick goals and Josh Mahura’s point shot found its way through with under six minutes to go to pul Regina within two. Then with less than two minutes to play, Matt Bradley fired a long shot past Titan goalie Evan Fitzpatrick, but that was as close as the Pats were able to get.

Pats head coach John Paddock didn't mince words after the game, saying that his team didn't show up for the first two periods.

"The third period disguised a whole bunch of crap," he said. "Acadie is actually what I saw (Saturday), they're very fast, they're a very good team, the opposition always has a say in how you play, they did a lot of things to stop of and we didn't do anything. Their best players outplayed our best players from the goaltender out."

The Pats top line of Hebig, Henry and Sam Steel combined for three goals and nine points in the loss, while the rest of the team posted three goals and eight points.

Max Paddock allowed six goals on 32 shots before Kubic picked up three saves in relief in the third period. Fitzpatrick made 32 saves in the win for the Titan.

John Paddock declined to reveal which goalie would be starting their final round robin game on Wednesday against Swift Current.

The Memorial Cup continues on Monday with the Broncos taking on the Hamilton Bulldogs at 6 p.m. Both teams are looking for their first wins of the tournament.
