There won’t be many nights that the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre isn’t busy this winter.

The new curling season is in full swing in downtown Moose Jaw and there’s an exciting year ahead for the local club.

Rhonda Wenarchuk has taken over as the curling programmer for Mosaic Place and she said she’s looking forward to the new role.

"I love curling, I love being on the ice and have a huge passion for it," said Wenarchuk.

Moose Jaw’s leagues are well stocked with teams this year, including 18 teams playing in Wednesday’s Original 16 Cash League. There are also 17 teams signed up to curl on Tuesday nights and 15 on Thursday nights.

Wenarchuk said that they’ve added a few new programs that have drawn a lot of interest so far.

"We started the Two/Two League on Monday night, Pat Simmons is overseeing it, we’ve got about 5-6 teams out and we want to create more and more," she said. "The game has different rules, so for an eight-end game, it takes you just over an hour to play. It’s very fast-paced.

"On Fridays, we’re doing Adult Learn-to-Curl, that started two weeks ago and we’re going to go for another four weeks. We have five adults [signed up] some have never stepped on the ice and some are doing pretty good and we hope they’ll roll into a league as well."

Wenarchuk added that if you’re interested in joining any of their leagues, you can contact her at 306-624-2048 or stop by the curling centre.

The MJFCC will be hosting its annual Saskatchewan Curling Tour and Saskatchewan Women’s Curling Tour stop on Nov. 16-18 with some of the top curlers in the province, including the local Penny Barker rink, taking part in the event.
