The playoffs opened in the South Saskatchewan Lacrosse League on Monday night with the Moose Jaw Novice Mustangs 2 scoring a big 7-2 win over the Weyburn Thrashers 2.

The quarterfinal win sends the Mustangs 2 into the semifinals, joining the Mustangs 1, who received a bye after finishing in first place during the regular season.

Kashton Smith had a hat trick for Moose Jaw in the win, while Nathan Bandet picked up a goal and two points. Nash Williams, Luke Turner and Dax Kalanuk also scored in the win for the Mustangs 2.

The Novice Playoffs will now continue on Sunday here in Moose Jaw at the Kinsmen Arena with the semifinals at 1 and 2 p.m. The Gold Medal Game goes at 7 p.m.
