Tanner Nagel is getting the opportunity to continue his hockey career.

The Mossbank product wrapped up his Western Hockey League career with the Swift Current Broncos last weekend and promptly signed with the Utah Grizzlies of the ECHL.

Nagel made his professional debut with the Grizzlies on Monday in a 4-3 loss to the Rapid City Rush.

After going undrafted in the WHL Bantam Draft, Nagel went on to play 232 career games in the WHL with Broncos, Lethbridge Hurricanes and Portland Winterhawks. He won a WHL Championship with Swift Current in 2018 and finished his career as the team’s captain this season.

Nagel played his final WHL game on Saturday in Moose Jaw, where he played his minor hockey.

"It's definitely nice to end it here, this was a big part of my childhood, coming to watch the Warriors play, so for my last game to be against the Warriors, it's cool and special," said Nagel. "I had a lot of friends and family come watch me tonight and send me off, so that was very cool too."

Nagel finished with 29 goals, 51 points and 267 penalty minutes in 232 games.

"I'm very grateful, I wasn't necessarily expected to make the league, let alone play four years, win a championship, any of that, so I'm very grateful for all the opportunities that I was given and it shows that hard work pays off," said Nagel.

After winning the championship last season, the Broncos finished in last place this season. Despite the struggles on the ice, Nagel said he enjoyed the season.

"We had a great group of guys, we didn't get the result that we wanted every night but it was a lot of fun and I hope the young guys appreciate their time in the league and learn and grow from this year," said Nagel.

Nagel and the Grizzlies return to the ice on Friday to face the Allen Americans.
