The Moose Jaw Peewee A Warriors have a four-goal cushion after Game 1 of their provincial semifinal series on Thursday night.

The Warriors skated to a 6-2 win over the Regina Tigers at the Bert Hunt Arena to open the two-game total point series.

"We played a really good game, we came out strong, we had a little dip in the second period but then we came back for the third period and ended up on top by four goals, so we finished strong and that's good," said Warriors forward Tayden Hardwicke after the win.

Hardwicke led the charge offensively for the Warriors with two goals and four points in the win, while Kai Spencer and Noah Thul had a goal and two points each.

"We just backchecked harder, forechecked harder, made more heads up plays, smarter plays, just an all-around better game," said Hardwicke on what allowed the Warriors to find the success they were looking for.

The Warriors jumped out to a 1-0 lead midway through the first period with Hardwicke's first goal of the night, but Regina would take the lead in the second period when Austin Dorais and Weston Smith scored just 18 seconds apart to make it 2-1 early in the middle frame.

Moose Jaw would right the ship midway through the second and scored four goals in the final 9:26 to take the lead for good.

Thul started the run for the Warriors and then Cole King followed that up 2:22 later. Only 1:58 later, Layne Gadd made it 4-2 for the Warriors and Hardwicke scored his second of the game with 46 seconds left in the second.

Spencer would score for Moose Jaw 3:05 into the third period to give the Warriors some more cushion on the Tigers.

"This win has given us some pretty good momentum, we've got the four-goal lead, so we've got a little bit of breathing room, but we still have to bring our best effort for the next game," said Hardwicke.

The two sides will now play Game 2 of the series on Saturday in Regina.

The Warriors sit in first place in the Hockey Regina League with 22-0-1 record this season.
