It wasn't exactly how Moose Jaw's Penny Barker drew it up, but the local team will take the victory to open the 2019 Saskatchewan Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Barker scored once in the 11th end to secured a 10-9 win over Regina's Chantelle Eberle in the opening draw in Humboldt on Tuesday.

"It's always nice to start out with a win, we would have liked to finish it in 10 but the girls battled really hard all game, trying to learn the paths, learn the ice and really just get into the championship, so really happy to finish off that game with a win, setting the stage for the rest of the week," said Barker after the opening win.

The 2017 provincial champions made a big comeback late in Tuesday's match, following up a deuce in the seventh with a steal of three in the eighth to move in front 9-6.

Eberle didn't go away, scoring once in the ninth and then stealing two in the tenth to force the extra end, but Barker settled the game down and got the single in the 11th for the win.

Coming out of Tuesday's opener, Barker said the team needs to make sure that they're taking advantage of their opportunities.

"We had chances to put a bit more pressure on with our draw weight and we slid deep a few times, so just working hard at getting that draw weight earlier in the game and that will help us down the stretch," she said.

After winning in the afternoon, the Barker rink looked to take advantage of a night off as they prepared for a busy day on Wednesday when they will hit the ice for three games.

Barker opens against 1-1 Sherry Anderson out of Saskatoon in Draw 3 at 9:30 a.m.

"The field is really strong, it's pretty even too, so every game everybody is going to have to come out with their best, so no matter who we're playing, we're just going to come out as a strong as we can and push as hard as we can to make shots," said Barker.

Team Barker will also go up against North Battleford’s Robyn Silvernagle at 2:30 p.m. and Amber Holland at 7:30 p.m.
