Moose Jaw's Cassia Montgomery is heading to nationals after she captured the YBC Single Provincial Championship in the junior girls' division over the weekend in Regina.

"It feels really good, it was a really tough crowd today, we had a lot of good competition," said Montgomery, who captured her second provincial title.

Montgomery won by just eight pins over Regina Nortown's Kayla Schneider, winning 1,123-1,115. The young local bowler said the final game was nerve-racking, "It came down to the last frame," she said.

"I had the right two-pin up and if I would have missed the two-pin I would have lost by seven points, but I hit the two-pin and got another right to win by eight… I wasn't 100-percent sure where I was standing against her, so I just wanted to clean it all off to leave it safe."

Montgomery will now get the opportunity to head to the national championship in Oshawa, ON in May. She said she’s hoping to top her last trip to nationals.

"I placed third when I was in bantams, so I’m hoping to do better than that, but overall just try my best," she said.

Moose Jaw's Mackenna Smith placed 12th in the junior girls' division at provincials on the weekend.

Marisa Montgomery came in sixth, while Calissta McCubbing was seventh in the bantam girls' division.

In the senior girls' division, Tristan Smith came eighth with a total score of 928 in five games.

On the boys' side, Moose Jaw’s Hunter Shaw was fourth in the junior boys' division, while Matthew Lazurko placed seventh.

Jackson Leroy was fourth in the senior boys' division, while Tyson Smith came in seventh.
