Moose Jaw's Dylan Boughen had the opportunity to represent his province last week at the 2018 Canada Basketball 15U Boys National Championship in Kamloops, B.C.

Boughen and Team Saskatchewan went 0-5 over the week at nationals, but the local baller is still walking away pleased with how he and the team performed.

"The experience was really good, it was cool to experience all the other provinces and how they compete with us," said Boughen.

"Most of the teams there, I felt our team shot the three the best out of all the teams, so my three-point shooting ability matched up well against other teams, they didn't have that style of play, so I felt like I matched up well against the other kids."

Over the course of the five games at nationals, Boughen put together better and better efforts each time out. He ended up averaging 4.4 points and 1.2 rebounds per game.

Boughen went from being held without a point in his first game at nationals to two points in the second game, three in the third and seven in the fourth.

Boughen saved his best performance for last when he picked up ten points and three rebounds in Saskatchewan's 83-70 loss to New Brunswick.

"I feel like as the games went on I started to get a little looser and even started to get more confident as the tournament progressed on, so I took more shots as my confidence grew," said Boughen.

Saskatchewan dropped their opening game to Quebec, 107-42, last Monday to open up their time at nationals.

Team Sask lost 82-30 to Alberta last Tuesday; they fell 81-60 to Nova Scotia on Thursday; and suffered an 86-64 loss to British Columbia on Friday.

Coming out of nationals, Boughen added that the team should hold their heads high despite coming up short in all five games.

"I thought that we competed well in every game and the whole team played really good," he said. "We competed and that's all we can really ask for."
