Another dominating weekend put together by the Moose Jaw Rotary Track Club earlier this month at the Regina Indoor Classic.

Eight local athletes collected 16 medals in total during the meet with a number of personal best times coming back to Moose Jaw.

"It was really fantastic, the kids have been working really hard, it's been cold for the past month or so, but they haven't backed off from their training and it showed," said Coach Scott Mitchell.

Akuol Riak and Kaycelyn Troesch finished 1-2 in the Girls 14-15 200-metre dash. Riak posted a time of 27.93 seconds to finish in the gold-medal spot, while Troesch picked up silver with a time of 28.03s.

Alyssa Roney won a bronze medal in the Girls 16-17 800m run with a time of 2:31.79.

"We talked before the weekend that we wanted the kids to be successful, whether that meant to get a personal best or to win a medal or just to do the best that they could and I honestly think every kid did that, whether they on a medal or not," said Mitchell.

The club tries to continue training outside during the winter months, but the extreme cold weather recently has led to some challenges on that front. Mitchell said that they’ve tried to do everything that they can to stay sharp.

"We've gone swimming a couple of times this year to work on cardio, but we've also gone outside in the cold too, it helps the kids become mentally strong," he said.

Next up for the club is the Indoor Age Class Provincial in Saskatoon on Mar. 15-16, which will be the final meet of the season for the club.
