The scoreboard was busy on Thursday night at Ross Wells Park, unfortunately it was the Fort McMurray Giants that were doing the most damage.

The Giants rolled to a 21-7 win over the Moose Jaw Miller Express in Western Major Baseball League's action.

The loss was the second straight for the Millers, who are now 8-4 on the campaign.

"Nothing seemed to go right," said Millers first baseman Adam Cook. "You have to give them credit, they had 20 some hits, it's tough. We had five errors and gave them some, so that's not what we want to do."

Actually the game was exactly the opposite of how they want to play, "It was just everything wasn’t going right for us and it just built up," said Cook. "Our bats were in it for a while and then they just pulled away."

The game no doubt left a sour taste in the Millers’ mouth and with a rematch against the Giants coming up on Friday, they're looking to have a short memory.

"This definitely gives us some motivation, they were a little chippy and we're looking forward to coming back tomorrow night and going right back at them," said Cook.

Moose Jaw was right in the game for much of the night.

They opened the scoring with an RBI-single from right fielder Brooks Benson in the second, but that's when the back-and-forth started.

Fort McMurray scored three in the third to move in front 3-1, but the Millers answered with four runs in the bottom half, including a three-run home run from Cook.

Cook finished the game 1-for-4 with three RBI, two runs scored and a walk. "It's always nice to be hitting the ball hard, but if the team doesn't win, it doesn't matter right," said Cook after the loss.

The Giants kept the pedal down in the fourth inning, adding on three more runs and then tacking on one more in the fifth.

Moose Jaw responded with a solo shot from D.H. Ty Roseberry, but the offence for Fort McMurray kept coming with six runs in the sixth, three in the seventh and five in the eighth.

An RBI-single from second baseman Scott Platt in the seventh was the only other run for Moose Jaw as they took the lopsided loss.

Three Giants finished with four hits. Lead-off hitter John Loschiavo was 4-for-6 with three runs, three RBI and two stolen bases; Liam Rihela went 4-for-5 with a double, three runs scored and five RBI; and Josh Iannetti had a double, one run scored, one RBI and a walk in a 4-for-5 night.

All but two hitters for the Giants drove in a run as well.

Millers starter Jesse Marks allowed seven runs -- four earned -- on 11 hits over five innings of work. He struck out five and walked one in the loss.

Nick Falco allowed six runs in an inning, while Ryann Gray followed him up by surrendering eight runs in an inning as well.

Moose Jaw product Reece Helland struck out two and walked one during a scoreless appearance in the eighth inning, while Platt pitched a scoreless ninth.

Chris Mercure earned the win on the mound for the Giants, throwing four innings, allowing two runs on four hits and one walk, while striking out six.

These two teams will meet again on Friday night at Ross Wells Park. First pitch is at 7 p.m.
