The Moose Jaw Miller Express played well in all aspects of the game as they won 6-2 against the division leading Regina Red Sox last night at Ross Wells Park.

The Millers were tied with the Sox in the middle innings until a three run sixth inning blew the game wide open.

Michael Borst said when the pitchers pitch well it gives the motivation for the hitters to back them up.

“When our pitchers go out there and they do their thing, our hitters definitely have that motivation and the confidence to help them and back them up,” he said. “Nothing’s worse than having a pitcher go out there and do the best they’ve ever done and not put up run support.”

The Millers hadn’t had a lot of success in some recent games on the mound or at the plate but they’ve turned that around since the weekend.

“Before (Tuesday) we were 3-7 in our last 10 games, and I think we needed that off day before Weyburn to really realize this is the grind, this is the end of the season and it’s what we’ve all been working for.”

Millers starting pitcher Matt Jackson went eight strong innings, striking out five and only allowing six hits and one earned run.

The teams go at it again tonight in Regina at Currie Field.

Elsewhere in the league Wednesday night, Okotoks powered through Yorkton 13 - 1, Lethbridge stopped Fort McMurray 9 -1, Melville edged Brooks 10-8, and Medicine Hat took down Edmonton 8-2.

The game between Swift Current and Weyburn was delayed because of rain.
