A close game turned into a blowout late for the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Monday night in Edmonton.

The Prospects scored eight runs in the seventh and eighth innings to roll to a 12-2 win over the Millers to open up their three-game set at ReMax Field this week.

Starting pitcher Blake Gallagher struck out eight over six innings and was tagged with the loss after allowing four runs -- three earned -- on eight hits and one walk.

Nathan Slobodian allowed three runs on four hits in 2/3 of an inning, while Ethan Soroka surrendered five runs on three hits and three walks with one strikeout in 1 1/3 innings.

Edmonton starter Hunter Boyd kept the Millers off balance over seven innings of work, striking out 10 with no walks. He allowed two runs -- one earned -- on nine hits.

Boyd left after the Prospects extended their lead to 7-2 in the seventh. Scott Gillespie and Jesse Poniewozik pitched a scoreless eighth and ninth inning, respectively, to seal the win.

Geordie McDougall and Cole Warken had three hits each in the loss for Moose Jaw. McDougall's double was the Millers' only extra-base hit.

The Millers are now 11-12 this season in the Western Canadian Baseball League. They will try to rebound on Tuesday night when they face the Prospects for a rematch.
