Michael Borst put together an incredible outing for the Moose Jaw Miller Express on Sunday, but it ended up being all for nothing in a 3-1 extra-innings loss to the Melville Millionaires at Ross Wells Park.

"He's a stud, he threw really well and he gave us a chance, not many games you can be in a ball game when you don't score as much as we did this game," said Millers third baseman Geordie McDougall.

Borst allowed just one run on three hits with seven strikeouts over ten innings of work on the mound. He had a perfect game going until a two-out double by the Millionaires' Tracy Warren in the fifth.

"Definitely a long day, I wanted to work quicker because I wanted to go the distance," said Borst. "My arm still feels good right now, I feel like I could have gone more but that's just the competitive nature in me."

Borst threw 114 pitches as he pitched into the tenth inning for the first time in his baseball career.

"My arm feels okay, but I'm sure tomorrow I'm going to regret it," he said. "I'm just glad that we were close to winning, we're making these strides every day and we just have to trust the process."

The only run against Borst came in the seventh after a lead-off walk and single put runners on the corners. Ryan Moormeyer cashed in Cody Goggins with a fielder's choice.

Moose Jaw promptly answered with a solo home run from third baseman Geordie McDougall in the bottom half of the seventh and Borst went back to mowing down Millionaires with perfect eighth and ninth innings.

Melville picked up a single in the tenth, but Borst struck out Warren and Jake Green to end the inning.

Borst said he was feeling it from the first pitch of the game, "I don't know what it was but I felt like I had to come out, put on a show for the fans, I love it here, there are so many people that support me, and the connection that I have with Markus [Melendez] behind the plate is something that I'm very thankful for, he’s a great guy and great at calling games."

The Millionaires won the game with a two-run home run by Evan Moore off Cole Warken in the 11th.

Moose Jaw couldn't answer, going down in order in the 11th for the eighth time in the game as they were held to just three hits overall.

"It seemed like we just weren't getting enough baserunners to be able to put pressure on them," said McDougall. "It was a good game overall but we just need more baserunners to be successful."

Melville starter Tanner Solomon struck out eight, allowing just one run on two hits, in seven innings of work. Chris Lacher pitched the final four innings, giving up just one hit and striking out two.

The Millers are now 10-9 this season in the Western Canadian Baseball League. They will have Monday off and then travel to Swift Current on Tuesday to take on the 57s.
