One inning killed the Moose Jaw Miller Express' chances on Monday night in Melville. The Millionaires struck for seven runs in the fifth inning and that proved too much for the Millers to overcome in an 11-6 loss at Pirie Field.

The loss was the third straight for the Millers as their record slipped to 9-7 this season in the Western Major Baseball League.

It was a game that featured good and bad for the Millers. Head Coach Michael Hunt said they just couldn't overcome the bad in the end.

"The things that we did right definitely equaled out with the things that we did wrong, we had some lapse in concentration and it went sideways on us in a hurry," said Hunt.

The fifth inning started with an error for the Millers and also included two hit batters and a wild pitch as Melville capitalized on Moose Jaw's mistakes to put together big inning.

That came just after the Millers had scored two on a home run by DH John Raybourn in the top half of the frame to tie the game up at 4-4.

"When you take out the train wreck of an inning, whenever that happens, we're doing a lot of good things to keep ourselves close, but that train wreck just seems to be too much to overcome," said Hunt.

The Millers finished with ten hits in the game. Moose Jaw's offence had struggled for the past two games, but they started strong on Monday with outfielder Alex Hendra-Brown hitting a two-run home run in the first inning to start off strong.

Melville answered with two in the bottom half of the first and then added one run in the second and another in the third for a 4-2 lead after three.

The score stayed that way until the fifth inning and then Melville held their 11-4 lead until the ninth when Moose Jaw struck for two more runs, but couldn't get any closer.

Markus Gregson started for the Millers in the loss, allowing five earned runs on ten hits and five walks over 4 2/3 innings.

Hunt said they didn't do much to help their starter out, "When I had to go get him and talked to him in the dugout, I told I don't think I can count how many things went wrong around him," he said. "He didn't have his best stuff, but he didn't have a whole lot of help in that one inning and we made bad worse."

Reliever Nick Falco had his best outing of the season in relief, holding the Millionaires off the board over the final 3 1/3 innings, allowing just one hit with five strikeouts and three walks.

"We saw a lot of good things from him today, he took some major strides, so we've got some good feelings for him for the rest of the year," said Hunt.

Melville starter Lyle Hibbitts gave up four runs on six hits over six innings, while striking out five and walking three..

The Millers will get a couple of much needed days off before opening a two-game set against the Edmonton Prospects at Ross Wells Park on Thursday night.
