A new bat served Michael Borst well on Saturday night.

The Moose Jaw Miller Express outfielder broke his "number-one bat" during Friday's 8-7 loss to the Swift Current 57s, but his new one came through in a big way during Saturday's 12-2 win over the Yorkton Cardinals at Ross Wells Park.

"If the second bat does this, I can't complain, just having fun," said Borst after going 3-for-3 with two home runs, a double, three runs scored and three RBI in Saturday's win.

Borst has five extra-base hits in four games with 10 RBI in 17 at-bats this season.

Head coach Rich Sorensen said having a consistent bat like Borst’s to put in the third spot in their lineup is a nice luxury, "He's just a great presence in the lineup," he said.

"He's such a baseball guy that he sees the third baseman back and he'll lay one down. He keeps his hands inside, that's how he's able to pull that and not have it go foul [on his second home run to left field]."

After losing their first game of the season on Friday, the Millers came out swinging on Saturday night, scoring in each of the first six innings and smacking 11 hits on their way to the lopsided win.

"The team was definitely upset that we lost last night and we let that fire burn for a little bit and we regrouped, we came after it and we wanted to put on a show for these fans," said Borst

"We attacked strikes early, they were throwing a big lefty with a lot of movement, we adjusted, hit it the other way and got him out of there as quickly as we can."

Starting pitcher Casey Zarr set the tone for the Millers with two no-hit innings to open the game. He ended up allowing two runs on four hits with one strikeout and no walks in three and 1/3 innings.

Alex Orenczuk picked up the win, throwing three and 2/3 scoreless innings, striking out one and giving up just two hits.

Borst finished off the win with two hitless innings and two strikeouts.

"Pitchers set the tone and [Casey Zarr] and shut the door in the first inning and we were able to score a couple in the first inning, so that really sets the tone for us," said Sorensen.

The Millers opened the game with Eric Marriott getting hit by the first pitch of the game. He would come around to score the opening run of the game and Blake Gallagher joined him on a sac-fly by Borst to make it 2-0 after one.

Geordie McDougall scored on an error in the second inning.

Yorkton got on the board in the top of the third, but the Millers answered with Borst’s first home run of the game to deep centre field.

The Cardinals scored again in the fourth, but Moose Jaw responded again with Marriott singling in Dougie DelaCruz to make it 5-2 after four.

Borst led off the fifth with a solo home run after fouling off four pitches.

Moose Jaw put the game away in the sixth when they scored six runs, starting with an RBI-double from Marriott, who was 2-for-5 with two runs out of the lead-off spot. DelaCruz worked a bases-loaded walk and Andres Garza also cashed in a pair of runs with a double to finish off the win.

The Millers are now 3-1 this season in the Western Canadian Baseball League. They will host the Cardinals for a rematch on Sunday afternoon at 4:05 p.m.
