The Medicine Hat Mavericks are the 2018 Western Major Baseball League champions.

Medicine Hat won 8-2 over the Regina Red Sox in the decisive fifth game for the championship series on Thursday night.

This is Medicine Hat's third league title and first since 2014.

Mavericks starting pitcher Jaymon Cervantes was lights out in the win, throwing seven one-run innings, allowing five hits and two walks, while striking out six.

This will be the last championship held in the WMBL era as the league will be changing to the Western Canadian Baseball League next season.
