The Notre Dame Hounds’ incredible season continued over the weekend as they completed an undefeated run through the Telus Cup Western Regional in Thunder Bay, Ont.

The Hounds scored a 5-2 win over the Winnipeg Wild in the championship game on Sunday to secure their spot in the 2018 Telus Cup national championship, which will be held later this month in Sudbury, Ont.

Luke Mylymok scored twice in the first period for the Hounds, opening the scoring at 8:37 and then making it 2-0 with 4:58 to go in the opening frame.

The Wild would fire back however as Zach Falck and Kyle Bettens scored less than two minutes apart to tie the game at 2-2 heading into the first intermission.

The Hounds were able to move back in front with Nolan Renwick picking up a goal just 7:41 into the second period.

That goal would hold up as the game-winner the rest of the way as the Hounds held off the Wild in the third period and scored empty net goals from Cordel Larson and Brad Morrissey in the final minute to seal the win.

Notre Dame goalie Riley Kohonick had to make just 15 saves to pick-up the win, while the Hounds fired 41 shots on the Wild net in the victory.

The Hounds went 4-0 over the four days at the Western Regional to advance to the midget AAA national championship, which opens on Apr. 23 in Sudbury, Ont.
