The Saskatoon Hilltops remain the class of the Canadian Junior Football League after they captured their fifth straight Canadian Bowl championship on Saturday.

The Hilltops scored 44 points between the second and third quarters on their way to a 58-21 win over the Langley Rams in the championship game at SMF Field in Saskatoon.

Saskatoon running back Josh Ewanchyna ran for 245 yards and three touchdowns in the win, while Quarterback Jordan Wells added 247 yards and two touchdowns through the air.

This was the 21st CJFL title for the Hilltops.

Huskies’ Run Ends in Mitchell Bowl

The University of Saskatchewan Huskies’ improbable run came to an end just two wins short of their ultimate goal.

The Huskies lost 47-24 to the Western Mustangs in the 2018 Mitchell Bowl, the national semi-final, on Saturday in London, ON.

Moose Jaw's Joel Litt-Jukes was in his freshman season with the Huskies, he didn't hit the stat sheet in Saturday's loss.

Saskatchewan and Western went back-and-forth over the course of the first half with the two sides heading into halftime even at 17-17.

The Mustangs took over in the second half, moving in front 26-17 in the third quarter and then putting the game away with 21 points in the fourth quarter.

Huskies quarterback Kyle Siemens went 24-of-32 for 247 yards with two touchdowns in the loss. Receiver Colton Klassen hauled in nine of those passes for 107 yards and two scores.

Saskatchewan running back Tyler Chow added to his huge playoffs with 143 yards and one touchdown in the loss.

Western was led by a ground attack that scored four touchdowns and posted 286 rushing yards, led by Alex Taylor, who had 141 yards and two touchdowns, while Quarterback Chris Merchant had 82 yards and a score to go along with 251 yards passing and two touchdowns.

The Mustangs will now face the Laval Rouge-et-Or, who will host the 2018 Vanier Cup on their home turf at the Stade Telus in Quebec City coming up this Saturday. Laval is coming off a 63-0 win over the St. FX X-Men in the Uteck Bowl.
