On the opening shift of the game, the Warriors were able to attack the Edmonton net, but weren’t able to push the puck over the goal line.

Playing 4-on-4 three minutes into the game, the Oil Kings Brett Kemp drove across the Warriors left line, Brett Kemp stopped high on the wall and then charged down the boards and cut to the net where he slid the puck past the left pad of Adam Evanoff to give Edmonton a 1-0 lead.

The Warriors lost leading scorer Brayden Burke at 8:38 of the first period when he was given a major and game misconduct for kneeing.

In the second period, the Warriors looked more comfortable and were able to create a consistent attack on the Edmonton net. They were outshooting Edmonton, 10-1, with eight minutes left in the frame, and outshot the Oil Kings 13-8 in the period.

Approaching the middle of the second, the Warriors were on the power play with Josh Brook controlling the puck inside the Edmonton left circle, Brook spun away from an Edmonton forward and drove to the bottom of the circle where he then set up Halbgewachs inside the circles where he snapped in his team-leading 28th goal of the year.

With just over three minutes remaining in the second, the Oil Kings won a draw inside their left circle, but Warriors 19-year-old forward Barrett Sheen stripped Edmonton of the puck and then drove to the net where he slid a backhand past Travis Child for his fourth goal of the year giving Moose Jaw a 2-1 lead.

Just 40 seconds into the third period, Noah Gregor burned an Oil Kings defenceman and drove hard to the net for his 14th goal of the year.  However, Edmonton came right back only 29 seconds later when a pass from Tomas Soustal went off of a Warriors defenceman and into the net.

With under four minutes remaining in the game, the Warriors took a penalty to give Edmonton a power play. Trey Fix-Wolansky tapped the puck between the pads of the Evanoff, who made the initial save, but didn’t see the puck behind himself and kicked it over the goal line for Edmonton’s game tying goal.

With regulation not producing a game-winning goal the teams went into overtime.

Only 24 seconds into the extra period, Halbgewachs burst down the Edmonton left boards and drove to the net where he lifted in his second of the game to propel the Warriors to the win.
