All eyes were on Jayden Halbgewachs on Friday night and the 20-year-old didn't disappoint.

Halbgewachs threw 11 shots on net and scored his 69th and 70th goals of the season for the Moose Jaw Warriors, but unfortunately it came in a 6-5 overtime loss to the Brandon Wheat Kings at Mosaic Place.

Halbgewachs finished with two goals and three points in the loss, while Warriors captain Brett Howden picked up four assists, and Justin Almeida had a goal and two points.

After a long delay for YARA Awards Night, the Wheat Kings struck pretty quickly to open the first period when Linden McCorrister scored just 2:15 into the game.

Moose Jaw was able to answer back right away, as only 58 seconds later, Tristyn DeRoose roofed a shot over Brandon goalie Dylan Myskiw to tie the game.

Caiden Daley put the Wheat Kings up 2-1 at 7:24 and Stelio Mattheos made it a two-goal game with under five minutes to go in the opening period.

Halbgewachs brought the fans to their feet before the period was over, as he scored his 69th goal of the year just four seconds into a power play for the Warriors to cut Brandon’s lead to 3-2 after one.

Approaching the midway point of the second period, Halbgewachs had the fans on their feet again. Working on the power play, Howden took a shot from the high left circle, Halbgewachs was on top of the crease where he deflected the puck past Myskiw for his second of the game and 70th of season, which tied Blair Atcheynum’s single season franchise record set in 1988-89.

Brandon got momentum back in their favour with five and a half minutes left in the period when Mattheos set up Cole Reinhardt all alone inside the left circle to give the Wheat Kings a 4-3 lead.

Only 89 seconds into the third period, the Warriors line of Tanner Jeannot, Halbgewachs and Howden burst up the ice. Halbgewachs led the charge and skated to the Brandon left circle and then dropped the puck between the circles for Jeannot, who ripped in his 38th goal to tie the game at four.

Brandon landed on the power play just passed the nine minute mark and they pushed the puck to the right goal line, Brody Willms sprawled to his left to make the first save, but the rebound came to Connor Gutenberg who put in the go-ahead goal.

As the third period continued the Warriors kept attacking. They pulled their goalie in the final minute for an extra attacker and the gamble paid off. The Warriors controlled the puck inside the Brandon zone and were able to push it from the left goal line towards the net, the puck bounced to Almeida between the circles where he quickly snapped in his 43rd goal with 0.7 seconds remaining.

In overtime, the Warriors had a great chance for a game-winner with Howden and Halbgewachs coming up the ice. The duo fired the puck, but missed the Brandon net, which allowed the Wheat Kings to come up the ice on an odd-man rush of their own that finished with a Mattheos goal.

Willms made 26 saves in the loss for the Warriors.

Moose Jaw was 2-for-5 on the power play and 1-for-2 on the penalty kill
