The Moose Jaw Prairie Dogs moved up a division and didn't look out of place over the weekend at the Legasse Mosquito AAA Baseball Tournament in Regina.

The Prairie Dogs, who play in Baseball Regina's Mosquito AA division, posted a 3-1 record in the round robin and ended up losing to the White Butte Broncos, 16-3, in the 'A' Final on Sunday.

"It started a little rocky, the boys weren't use to that kind of competition yet, they adjusted really well and came out on Saturday, got a couple key wins and carried it over to Sunday," said Prairie Dogs head coach Dustin Caplette.

Moose Jaw's only two losses of the tournament came against the Broncos as they dropped a 13-0 game to open the tournament on Friday night.

They responded after that and picked up a 10-9 win over the Regina Pacers on Saturday afternoon, followed by an 11-10 win over the Regina Buffaloes in the evening.

The Prairie Dogs carried that success over to Sunday afternoon when they toppled Estevan, 18-11, to book their ticket into the final.

"The biggest thing was the adjustment to the pitching, the speed was much quicker, a lot more strikes thrown, the boys adjusted at the plate well and hit the ball really well, that was probably the biggest thing that won us a lot of our games," said Caplette.

So far this season in the Mosquito AA Division, the Prairie Dogs have rolled to a 4-0 record, outscoring their opponents, 55-2.

Caplette said they wanted to test themselves by moving up a level and the team responded.

"So far the team's development has been really good, there's still a lot of room for improvement, but that's the biggest thing, just trying to keep them going, getting them better every game out and hopefully by the end of the season, we're competing for a provincial championship," said Caplette.

The Prairie Dogs are back on the field on Thursday night when they host the Lumsden Cubs at Swarbrick Diamond. First pitch is at 6:15 p.m.
