The biggest question heading into the Saskatchewan Roughriders’ Week 13 match-up with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats is whether or not quarterback Kevin Glenn will be on the field. Glenn is a game-time decision this week after he left last Saturday’s Banjor Bowl with an injury to his throwing hand.

The Riders have said since Day 1 this week that Glenn is day-to-day and they’d make a decision on their quarterback closer to the game.  Following Thursday’s walkthrough in Hamilton, back-up quarterback Brandon Bridge revealed that Glenn took part in the practice.

“He was out there throwing with a glove on to see if he could have a grip on the ball and he was throwing it pretty well,” said Bridge.

Head Coach Chris Jones stuck with the mantra that Glenn is day-to-day and he will be evaluated closer to game time. Jones said the decision is fully in Glenn’s hands.

“(He needs to) tell me that he’s ready to go and he’s able to throw,” said Jones. “Right now, we’re waiting to see if that’s going to happen or not.”

If Glenn can’t go, Bridge will be the next man up with Vernon Adams Jr. expected to see some action on the field as well. Bridge said he’s been preparing to get ready for the game.

“You always want to get in the extra film, you want to get the whole trust of the locker room, that’s the main thing for a quarterback because if people don’t trust you, coaches aren’t going to put you in,” said Bridge. “I was watching extra film because if I do have to start, at least I am ready and the coaches have that confidence – we see this guy coming in early and leaving late – that if Kevin Glenn doesn’t play than we have the confidence in this guy to go out and get the job done.”

Jones admitted that he wants to Glenn on the field this week, but isn’t worried about how Bridge will handle things if he’s call upon.

“Brandon’s done an outstanding job, he and Vernon are both good players and we look forward to seeing what they can do,” he said.

“Quarterback is just another position, they’ve got to play well and every position has to play well. The team knows that regardless of whether K.G. is in there or not that they have to come over here and beat a very good football team, Hamilton is playing at a very high level right now.”

The Riders are coming off a 48-28 loss in Winnipeg last week, which snapped the team’s three-game winning streak. The game was a step back, according to Jones, and he feels the team needs to clean up a few areas to have success this week.

“We can’t throw interceptions for touchdowns, we can’t give up punt returns for touchdowns, we can’t let the quarterback outside the pocket and scramble ten times which results in 21 points, those are the biggest things,” said Jones.

Hamilton enters this week’s game on a two-game winning streak after starting the season at 0-8, which included a 37-20 loss to the Riders at Mosaic Stadium in Week 3. Jones doesn’t expect the Riders to be able to lean on that win much.

“They’re a very different football team, Coach (June) Jones has come in and put his stamp on the team,” said Jones. “The thing I see is the players seem to be playing fast, for whatever reason. They’re playing fast, they’re playing physical, the quarterback is moving around the pocket, so we’ve got to do a great job of keeping him in the pocket, but they look like they’re having fun.”

The Riders will look to put an end to that fun when they hit face-off with the Ti-Cats at Tim Hortons Field in Hamilton. Kick-off is at 5 p.m. Saskatchewan time.
