The Moose Jaw Generals came away with a split of their two games against the Yorkton Maulers at Mosaic Place this past weekend.

The Generals opened the weekend by snapping a seven-game losing skid with a 5-0 win over the Maulers, but Yorkton bounced back on Sunday by knocking off Moose Jaw, 4-3, in Saskatchewan Midget AAA Hockey League action.

Moose Jaw now sits at 6-14-2-3 on the year.  They’ll be on the ice on Wednesday when they head to Wilcox to face the Notre Dame Hounds.

Generals 5 Maulers 0

Jake Davidson turned away all 28 shots that he faced to earn his first shutout of the season for the Generals on Saturday.

Jaxon Georget had two goals and three points, while Casey McDonald picked up three helpers, and Brendan Kemp scored twice in the win for Moose Jaw.

“We had a really good second period, scored a couple of goals on them and just stayed ahead for the rest of the game,” said defenceman Jeron Kletzel, who chipped in with two assists in the win.

After a scoreless first period, Georget got the Generals going with two goals in the second to put Moose Jaw in front for good.  Kemp scored twice early in the third and then Cody Davis added a power play goal late to seal the win.

Moose Jaw was 2-for-9 on the power play and 5-for-5 on the penalty kill in the win.  They out-shot Yorkton, 38-28.

Maulers 4 Generals 3

The Generals were able to out-shoot the Maulers again on Sunday, but couldn’t hold onto an early lead to lose by one in the second game of their two-game weekend.

“We had a rough start, guys weren’t ready, we tied it up in the third, but couldn’t hold on in the end,” said Kletzel, who finished with three assists in the two games over the weekend.

Kemp picked up his third goal of the weekend just 48 seconds into the second period to open the scoring. Georget potted his third with a power play goal midway through the second that put Moose Jaw up 2-0.

Yorkton struck back with two goals over the final 6:28 of the second period to tie the game.

The Maulers took the lead with a power play goal early in the third period, but Davis’ second of the weekend midway through the frame tied the game back up. Yorkton’s Aiden Butych found the game-winner with 1:40 to go in regulation to give the Maulers the win.

Davidson made 30 saves in the loss, while Moose Jaw out-shot Yorkton, 45-34.

The Maulers scored three power play goals, while the Generals were held to a 1-for-9 night with the man advantage.
