A couple more additions to the loss column for the Moose Jaw Generals in northern Saskatchewan over the weekend.

The Generals gave the second place Prince Albert Mintos a good fight on Saturday afternoon, falling 3-2, and then they dropped a 6-1 game to the Beardy’s Blackhawks on Sunday.

The two losses drops the Generals’ record to 6-22-2-3 on the year.

They get the week off before hosting the Mintos at Mosaic Place on Sunday afternoon.

Mintos 3 Generals 2

The Generals spotted the Mintos a 3-0 lead before making a game of it late on Saturday afternoon at the Art Hauser Centre.

Prince Albert opened the scoring only 1:41 into the game when Josh Pillar found the back of the net.

The score stayed that way until late in the second period when the Mintos went in front 2-0 on a goal from Kyrell Sopotyk.

A power play goal by Prince Albert’s Alex Ozar move them in front by three with 12:23 to play, but the Generals started to claw their way back just a few minutes later when Jaxon Georget converted on a shorthanded goal.

Only 53 later, Cal Caragata’s 10th of the season cut the Mintos’ lead to just one.

That would be as close as the Generals were able to get as they opened their weekend with a narrow loss.

15-year-old goalie Ethan Hein turned away 25 shots for the Generals in the loss, as Moose Jaw was out-shot 28-18 by the Mintos.

Prince Albert was 1-for-7 on the power play, while the Generals went 0-for-2.

Blackhawks 6 Generals 1

A rough first period was too much to overcome for the Generals on Sunday against Beardy’s.

The Blackhawks struck for four goals in the first period, including three only 2:54 apart late in the frame, to take early control of the contest.

Casey McDonald scored his sixth of the season midway through the second period, but Beardy’s lead 5-1 after two and scored late in the third to seal the win.

Generals goalie Jake Davidson was peppered with 41 shots in the loss, while Moose Jaw fired 24 shots on the Blackhawks’ net.
