The Brent Gedak rink is pretty comfortable playing at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre, as they won the Saskatchewan Curling Tour's annual stop in the Friendly City over the weekend.

Gedak and company edged the Rylan Kleiter rink, 6-5, in the final on Sunday night to come away with the Moose Jaw SCT Spiel for the second straight year.

It's the Estevan rink's third win at the event in the past five years.

"Derek [Owens] plays here all-year-round and Jason [Ackerman] is from here, so we've had a good run here for the last few years," said Gedak after Sunday’s win.

The Gedak rink went 6-1 over the course of the three days here in Moose Jaw. Their lone loss came on Saturday afternoon to the Kleiter rink, who were being skipped by Moose Jaw's Pat Simmons for the weekend with Kleiter busy winning a Canadian Bowl title with Saskatoon Hilltops.

"Consistency [was the biggest factor in the team’s success], it's the time of the year where we've got a couple of spiels under our belt and we've been working at our game and everything worked out this weekend," said Gedak.

In order to advance into the final, Gedak had to pull off a pretty incredible comeback to beat Moose Jaw's Carson Ackerman in the semi-final on Sunday afternoon.

Ackerman went in front 5-1 with a deuce in the fifth end, but Gedak battled back with two in the sixth and then scored four in the eighth to secure the win.

"Those young guys played really well, they played well enough to win, just sometimes this new free-guard zone that we're playing with this year, it always leaves you in the game," said Gedak.

The Gedak rink was able to carry that success over into the final where they stole four in the fourth end to get out to a big 6-1 lead. The Kleiter rink scored singles in the final four ends, but couldn’t tie the game.

"Anything can happen out on the ice and today things went our way," said Gedak.

Anderson Captures Women's Event

Saskatoon's Sherry Anderson hadn’t played in a spiel with her senior team yet this season, but that didn't matter this weekend.

The Anderson rink went 5-0 on their way to capturing the Moose Jaw SWCT Spiel with a 7-1 win over Mandy Selzer in the final on Sunday at the Moose Jaw Ford Curling Centre.

"To come out and get five wins, we were throwing pretty good on some ice that pretty tricky at times, straight in some spots, so it was encouraging," said Anderson.

Anderson and company have won back-to-back Canadian Senior Curling Championships and will be looking to repeat as world champions again coming up in April.

"It was nice to start with a win," said Anderson. "We've been on the ice and having practices, so it feels good."

Moose Jaw's Penny Barker knocked out Moose Jaw's Lorraine Arguin with a 6-5 win in the first tiebreaker on Saturday night. Barker would lose out to Selzer in the third tiebreaker, falling 6-3, on Saturday night.
