Moose Jaw Warriors Ryder Korczak, Cole Jordan, and Max Wanner, along with 2020 CHL Import pick Martin Rysavy, received calls from NHL teams during Day 2 of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft.

Korczak was the first Warrior on the draft board when the New York Rangers selected him in the 3rd round, 75th overall.

The 18-year-old forward from Yorkton had three goals, 13 assists, and 16 points in 17 games during the shortened 2021 WHL season. In 2019 – 2020, Korczak was the Warriors leading scorer with 49 assists and 67 points in 62 games.

Korczak is the 13th Warrior in franchise history to be selected in the 3rd round at the NHL Draft, the first was Daryl Gilmour in 1985 and the most recent was current captain Daemon Hunt in 2020. He is also the fourth Warrior ever selected by the Rangers, the others being Dylan McIlrath (2010), Jamie Lundmark (1999), and Jason McClean (1997).

Defenceman Cole Jordan was selected in the 5th round, 141st overall. In the 2021 Subway WHL Hub, he had three goals, seven assists, and 10 points in 23 games.

He is the ninth Warrior in franchise history to be selected in the 5th round at the NHL Draft, the first was Pat Beauchesne in 1986 (Washington) and the most recent was Justin Almeida in 2018 (Pittsburgh). Jordan is the sixth Warrior in franchise history to be drafted by Calgary, the others were Ryley Grantham (2008), Dustin Boyd (2004), Tyler Johnson (2003), Dustin Paul (1997), and Theo Fleury (1987).

Rysavy (LW), 6’3”, 180lbs, is from Prerov, Czech Republic and was selected in the 7th round, 197th overall, by the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Moose Jaw drafted Rysavy with the 6th overall pick in the 1st round of the 2020 CHL Import Draft. The18-year-old spent last season with HC Prerov and had three goals, six assists, and nine points in 19 games. He played for the Czech Republic at the 2021 IIHF World Under-18 Championship and had two goals and three points in five games.

In the 7th round, the Edmonton Oilers called defenceman Max Wanner with the 212th overall pick.

From Estevan, Wanner, 6’3”, 180lbs, played 17 games during the 2021 Subway WHL Hub and picked up four assists.

Max is the 11th Warrior to be drafted in the 7th round of the NHL Entry Draft. The first was Kurt Lackten (NY Islanders) in 1985, the most recent was Jordan Knackstedt in 2007 (Boston). He is the fifth Warrior in franchise history to be selected by the Oilers, the others were Kyle Brodziak (2003), Chad Hinz (1997), Ryan Smyth (1994), and Kelly Buchberger (1985).

The Moose Jaw Warriors open the 2021 – 2022 Western Hockey League regular season on Friday, October 1st when they host the Saskatoon Blades in their home opener.
