Taking a break from the ice, the Moose Jaw Warriors welcomed in current and former players on Friday for the ninth annual Warriors Alumni Men’s Golf Tournament at the Hillcrest Golf Club.

There was close to 100 golfers that teed it up for the tournament, which focuses on raising funds for the Warriors Education Fund.

"It's the same thing every year, there's a huge support from the business community in Moose Jaw," said Tournament Chair Todd Hudson. "It's just incredible the support that we get from the local community here."

Over the first eight years for the tournament, the Warriors have raised over $500,000 that helps cover the costs associated with the WHL Scholarship, which provides a Warrior player with a year paid of post-secondary school per year played in the league.

20-year-old defenceman Brandon Schuldhaus is heading into his final WHL season and he said to see how the community comes out to support the team in the offseason is incredible.

"It's really cool to see the amount of support there is from the local fans to businesses and a lot of alumni, so it's really good to see the support and the amount that people care about this event," said Schuldhaus.

While the tournament gives people in the community a chance to rub shoulders with some Warriors alumni like Theoren Fleury and Brayden Point. The two-day event also gives the current Warriors a chance to speak with some alumni and build the bond across generations of Warriors.

"I don't know a lot of the guys, but they're all really good guys and it's cool to meet some guys that use to play here and just chatting about different stories," said Schuldhaus.

18-year-old forward Tate Popple said getting the chance to take some wisdom from Brayden Point was really big for him.

"It's the first time meeting him, it's nice to meet him and get to know him a bit," he said.

The Warriors' 2018-19 season is right around the corner and Popple said getting back to Moose Jaw for the weekend makes him that much more excited to get the season going.

"This is the start, getting back into the city, it's nice to be here," he said.

The team of 800 CHAB's Rob Carnie, Mark Albert, Tom Hanson and Bump Hudson won the tournament title this year, shooting 11-under during the round.
