The Central Cyclones and Peacock Tornadoes battled in a tightly played game in the Moose Jaw High School Boys Soccer League on Wednesday.

The Cyclones carried much of the play throughout the game and finished things off with a 2-0 win over the Tornadoes at the Canada Games Field.

“They’re a good team, but having said that, our team was better,” said Central’s Abdul Ali. “We missed a lot of shots, we missed a penalty, but we did our best and the defence was tight.”

Central had the ball on the attack for much of the game and were able to limit Peacock’s chances in the offensive zone. Ali said the team played one of their best games defensively in the win.

“Our defence was tight, so that was good,” said Ali. “Offensively we didn’t play alright, but we did our best to score.”

Shaad Salido scored in the first half and Okony Okak gave the Cyclones some breathing room in the second half.

Peacock’s Jordan McDovell said he was happy with his team’s game, they just need to find a way to generate more offensively against a team that brings as much pressure as the Cyclones.

“It was a good game, in previous years against Central, we were definitely a lot weaker of a team, but this game, I felt it was an even game, we just didn’t get enough scoring chances,” said McDovell.

“We just need to keep training, working as a team, talking to each other and eventually it will come.”

The Cyclones are off to a 2-0 start to the season, while the Tornadoes are still looking for their first win at 0-2.

The league returns to the field on Monday when the Tornadoes square off with the Vanier Vikings, who are also 0-2 after falling 5-0 in Swift Current on Wednesday.
