Central's Ray-Lyn Schmidt captured the 2018 South Central District High School Golf Championship on Saturday at the Hillcrest Golf Club.

The local golfer edged Assiniboia's Lindsay Hawkins in a two-hole playoff to win the senior girls district title. 

Both golfers shot 95s to finish tied after 18 holes. On the second playoff hole, Hawkins' putt finished just short of dropping to force another hole, giving Schmidt the win.

Assiniboia's Hunter Durrell came in third to also advance to provincials.

In the senior boys' division, Avonlea's Brayden Nestman shot a six-over 77 to win by one shot over Assiniboia's Jonathan Harden. Mankota's Kent Brisebois was third after shooting an 88.

Avonlea won the senior boys' team title as Nestman, Caileb Nestman, and Caleb Robertson combined to shoot 297, which beat out Coronach in second place with 325 shots and Peacock in third with 328.

The Assiniboia Composite High School girls won the senior girls' team title as the lone team in the competition.

Assiniboia Elementary's Davin Karst captured the bantam boys' district title after posting a 41, while Avonlea's Dawson Kuffner came in second with a 43.

There was a four-way tie for third at 45, Avonlea's Brayden Heistad was crowned the champ via retrogression.

The bantam girls' district title was won by Jenna Gronsdahl from Assiniboia Elementary with a 58, while Avonlea's Jaena Nestman came in second with a 68. Assiniboia's Khanesia Warken was third with a 69.

The provincial championship will be held on Friday and Saturday in North Battleford.
