The Central Cyclones were feeling it on Monday as they cruised to a big 8-0 win over the Vanier Vikings in the Moose Jaw High School Boys Soccer League.

Central scored four times in each half as they put plenty of pressure on Vanier throughout the game.

“We started attacking the first day of school and it’s going pretty good, we’re getting a whole lot better,” said Central grade 11 Fharis Ebet, who scored the first two goals of the game for the Cyclones.

It was the first game of the season for Central after the league opened the year last week and Ebet said he likes the look of this year’s team.

“We have a pretty good team this year, lots of very skilled players,” he said.

Alahagi Dukuly and Abdulkarim Ali also scored in the first half for Central, while Nick Butterfield scored twice in the second half, and Abdullah Aboul Khir and Shaad Salido also found the back of the net.

Vanier dropped to 0-2 with the loss.

Head Coach Jaysen Tomashewski said he’s seeing the progress from game-to-game that he’s looking for out of the team.

“We’re looking at small numbers and we know that our guys are going to be on the field all game long every time we come out to play, so part of it is that condition and part of it is understanding that we have to stay composed under pressure,” said Tomashewski.

“They started to fall apart more later in the second half, but into the beginning of the second half, it was still looking pretty good. They had a lot of pressure to face and they still kept coming back with that tenacity and that’s the stuff that we’re looking for right now.”

The league is back on the field on Wednesday for a showdown between Peacock and Central at 4:30 p.m. at the Canada Games Field. Vanier will travel to Swift Current to take on the Colts.
