The Central Cyclones and Peacock Tornadoes battled the elements and each other on Saturday morning at Smith Field.

Central pulled off a 6-2 win over their rivals to advance to the championship game in the Moose Jaw High School Boys Soccer League.

Nicolas Butterfield had a hat trick in the win for Central. He felt the team could have played better, but they're pleased to be moving on.

"It wasn't one of our best games as a team, we could have played better, a lot of the time, we weren't controlling the ball and often we were just kicking it back-and-forth," said Butterfield. "We just need to focus harder, but we well enough and we got the win."

It was cold and windy during the morning match-up between Central and Peacock as the players had to deal with slippery footing.

Peacock's Tata Mugisha said the Tornadoes had a very strong game, "We played pretty good in the first half, we just need to take time before we pass the ball in the second half, that was the problem we had, but otherwise, we played really good," he said.

Butterfield and Zuhri Akrul-Khir scored for Central in the first half, while Javin Akins found the back of the net for Peacock to make it a 2-1 game after 45 minutes.

Central took over in the second half with two goals from Butterfield, while Aleksa Bijelic and Faisal Moh also added goals for the Cyclones. Dallas Erickson scored the lone goal for Peacock in the half.

Butterfield said Central did a good job of blocking out the cold weather during the game, "If you warm up and don’t think about it much, you're fine," he said. "The ball was kind of hard, but that doesn't really matter."

The Cyclones will face the Swift Current Colts in the final coming up on Tuesday, 4 p.m., at Smith Field. The Colts beat the Weyburn Eagles in the other semifinal on Saturday.

The girls final will feature the Swift Current Ardens going for their 12th straight league championship against the Weyburn Eagles. Swift Current beat Vanier 6-1 and Weyburn topped Central, 4-1, in the semifinals on Saturday.
