The Rambler Park Men's Fastball League got their season going Tuesday night in the Notorious City with an all Moose Jaw battle.

The Canadians won 3-1 over the Giants at Lyle Helland Diamond at Memorial Field, in a game that was called in the sixth inning after a storm kicked up and forced the players off the field.

After a delayed start due to the pandemic, Giants manager Dale Garthus was glad to see the games back this year.

“It looked for a while there, in April/May, like we wouldn’t be having a season this season,” he said. “We’re happy to be getting in some kind of season, last start and all. Definitely good to see. It felt like a great place to be tonight.”

It was scoreless for some time in the game with both starting pitchers throwing well in the early innings. It took until the Canadians loaded the bases in the top of the fourth inning, when Kent Barber’s double scored three, for a run to cross the plate.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Giants pinch-hitter Kurtis Brown’s RBI single knocked in Joe McDonald for the Giants’ only run of the game.

The game was called in the next inning with the rain starting to fall down harder, the wind kicking up dust and lightning in the area threatening.

The 13 teams in the league will end the season in a tournament in Regina next month.
