The incredible season for Josh Brook continues to get better as the 19-year-old was named to Canada's National Junior Team over the weekend.

The Moose Jaw Warriors captain secured one of the seven defencemen spots with Team Canada and will have the opportunity to compete at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championship, which starts next week.

"It feels awesome now that camps down and the team is together, it's a huge relief and it feels great," said Brook.

The Montreal Canadiens prospect hit the ice for the selection camp last week in Victoria and showed well enough during the three exhibition games against the U Sports All-Stars to earn a spot on the team.

Brook said it was an intense four days competing against the 34 best players from across the country, "It was high paced and very competitive, it was good hockey," he said.

"I feel like I performed well at the camp, played really good hockey and showed what I have."

Brook headed to the World Junior camp playing the best hockey of his career with nine goals and 33 points in 25 games for the Warriors this season.

He can dominate at both ends of the ice, which is something that he feels is a common theme among the Team Canada defensive group.

"We've got a lot of great defencemen here and I'm very excited to get things going with them," said Brook.

"We all bring a two-way game to the table, there isn't one guy that doesn't have the skills at both ends of the ice. We have little things that we do better than each other, but everyone does everything pretty well here."

Canada has ten days before they open the World Junior Hockey Championship in Vancouver. The team also has a few days of practice ahead before they open pre-tournament play later this week. Brook said their focus needs to be on coming together as a team over this stretch.

"We need to get to know each other and get the systems down, so it's going to be a fun couple of days," said Brook. "Throughout camp, we got better and better, there's still more to come, but we're definitely on the right track for sure."

Brook and Team Canada go up against Switzerland on Tuesday in Victoria to open pre-tournament action. They will also face Slovakia and Finland.

The World Juniors will open on Boxing Day with Canada going up against Denmark at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
