Brandon Bridge accomplished something on Friday night in Hamilton that hadn't been done in over 30 years.

He became the first Canadian quarterback to start and win a game since 1985 and the first to throw three touchdowns in a game since 1984, both last done by Greg Vavra.

Bridge led the Saskatchewan Roughriders to a 27-19 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Friday night.

The 25-year-old back-up quarterback started in place of Kevin Glenn in the game and finished 21-of-31 for 231 yards with three touchdowns in the win.

Both team's offences started slow with Saskatchewan leading 3-0 after the first quarter, but the Riders got going in the second quarter, starting with Bridge finding receiver Devon Bailey in the end zone for a nine-yard score.

Three minutes later, Bridge connected with Bakari Grant for another nine-yard score that made it 17-0 for the Riders.

Hamilton was able to get on the board later in the second quarter back Jeremiah Masoli found Jalen Saunders for a 39-yard catch and run score.

Tyler Crapigna and Sergio Castillo traded field goals late in the first half and the Riders went into the break with a 20-10 lead.

Saskatchewan continued to secure their lead in the third quarter when Bridge hit receiver Naaman Roosevelt for a 23-yard touchdown midway through the frame to make it 27-10.

The Ti-Cats would be on the only team to score the rest of the way, but it was just three field goals from Castillo as Saskatchewan held on for their fourth win in the past five games.

Grant finished with six catches for 71 yards and a touchdown in the win, while Roosevelt had five catches for 66 yards and a score. Duron Carter had his six-game touchdown streak come to an end after he left the game with an injury in the third quarter.

Running back Kienan LaFrance finished with nine carries for 34 yards.

On the Hamilton side, Masoli was 28-of-48 for 328 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions. Saunders was Masoli's top target with ten catches for 138 yards and a touchdown.

Riders defensive back Ed Gainey had both interceptions as he increased his CFL-lead to eight interceptions this season.

Saskatchewan will now prepare for a big test next Sunday when they host the Calgary Stampeders at Mosaic Stadium.
