Twenty-eight gold medals were brought home by the Moose Jaw Kinsmen Flying Fins at the end of November from the 42nd Annual Goldfins Invitational in Saskatoon.

Those gold were part of a 54-medal haul for the Flying Fins at the first full-team meet of the season.

"It felt good, it was my first meet of the season and to have a meet like that to start off felt good," said Austin Lin, who won seven gold medals and one silver.

Lin also swam 100-percent personal best times at the meet to kick off the season in a big way. He said he’s aiming to continue building off this meet moving forward.

"It's always good to start off strong, it could be a benchmark for the future," said Lin.

12-year-old Chloe Johns put together a stellar showing as well with six gold medals and one silver. She also swam 100-percent personal best times at the meet.

Johns said she was hungry to get back into the pool for a meet, "I thought I did pretty good, I got all PBs and that was my goal for the meet, just to try to drop some time in all my events," she said.

"I trained really hard and I was in a few other sports, so I was just trying to make every practice… I like swim meets, so I was excited to see my friends from other cities and stuff like that too."

Johns gained short course AA times in the 100-metre backstroke, 50m freestyle and 800m freestyle, while Lin secured a AA time in the 400m individual medley.

Olivia Harvey had a strong meet as well with five gold medals, two silver and one bronze. She said she was really happy with some of the times that she was able to put together.

"It went pretty well, I got a lot of best times and I haven't done that for a while," said Harvey. "I've been working a lot harder and just felt good [in the pool]."

Harvey added that they've been working on endurance over the last bit and she credits that with helping her drop some time.

"I'm able to push harder for longer," she said.

"I know my goals now and I know what I want to improve on."

The Flying Fins will be sending swimmers to the Man/Sask Championships in Saskatoon next weekend.
