The Moose Jaw Bantam A Mavericks have lost just twice this season, both have come in double overtime during the playoffs.

Moose Jaw fell 4-3 to the Northwest Sharks in Game 1 of the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League’s best-of-three championship series.

Eowyn Stokes had a goal and two points in the loss, while Ember Dusomme and Nikita Halyk also scored for the Mavericks.

Austyn Eaton scored the game-winning goal for the Sharks on a power play midway through the fifth period.

Moose Jaw outshot Northwest, 44-33, in the loss. Sydnee Christmann stopped 29 shots for the Mavericks.

The two teams will now meet for Game 2 on Saturday at the Turtleford Arena. If necessary, Game 3 will be on Sunday in Turtleford.

Ice Cats Lose Midget Final in OT

The Wood River Ice Cats came up just short of capturing the Saskatchewan Female Hockey League’s Midget A Division Championship on Sunday.

The Ice Cats lost 4-3 in overtime to the Western Prairie Thunder in the third and deciding game of the championship series.

Kelli McGonigal potted the overtime winner for the Thunder with 9:42 to play in the extra period.

Wood River led 2-1 after the second after Jarzey Watteyne scored shorthanded and Jaelynne Packet picked up a power-play goal. McGonigal had scored with nine minutes left in the third to tie the game and then she put the Thunder ahead with 1:38 to play in the third.

Moose Jaw’s Alex Foreman scored the game-tying goal for the Ice Cats with just 19 seconds left in regulation. 

The Ice Cats had won Game 1, 2-1, on Thursday, but the Thunder responded with a 1-0 triple-overtime win in Game 2 on Friday.

Foreman, Lindsay Daniel, Devyn Davey, Kaylen Logan-Pemkowski, Courtney Botterill and Dakota Knox represented the Moose Jaw contingent on the Ice Cats.

Local Teams Fight for Provincial Titles

The Moose Jaw Bantam A Warriors had their drive for a provincial title end with a 5-3 loss to Saskatoon on Sunday at the Red Knight Arena.

The Warriors lost 12-6 in the two-game total point Bantam AA Tier II provincial final after falling 7-3 in Game 1 on Saturday.

The Moose Jaw Peewee A Warriors are sitting tied with Prince Albert at 4-4 heading into the second game of the Peewee AA Tier II provincial final.

The two sides will meet for Game 2 coming up on Friday night, 7 pm, at the Red Knight Arena.

In the Peewee AA Tier III division, the Moose Jaw Stars are down 8-5 against Saskatoon heading into the second game of the two-game total point series. 

They will play Game 2 on Saturday, 3:45 pm, at the Kinsmen Arena.

Red Warriors Keep Winning in Hockey Regina Playoffs

Carter Hudyma scored five goals to power the Moose Jaw Atom A Red Warriors to a 7-3 win over the Prairie Storm Lightning on Saturday in the Hockey Regina league playoffs.

Austin Smith and Brodyn Pladson also scored in the win, while Benjamin Barth was solid between the pipes for the Red Warriors.

Moose Jaw returns to the ice on Monday night to face the Regina Shamrocks. A win in that game puts the Red Warriors in the league final.
